Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, says the state government is committed to supporting the Nigerian police in fighting crimes in the state.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri gave the assurance when he received the newly posted commissioner of police of the state, CP Morris Dankwambo who led some senior officers of the command to a courtesy call on the governor at the government house Yola.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri said both the government and the Nigeria Police are doing their best to ensure that the country is properly secured.
The governor said he enjoyed working with the outgoing Commissioner of Police in fighting crimes in the state which he said has brought down criminal activities to its lowest level.
Governor Fintiri assured of government commitment to extend its hand of support to the Adamawa State command in fighting crimes in the state.
While appreciating the energy and zeal of the new police commissioner, the governor called for the need to rejig the security architecture in some areas so as to enhance its operations.
The governor assured of his total support to the new police commissioner to carry out his duties effectively.
He therefore called on the media to refrain from giving the public information that will bring unrest as they too have a role to play in maintaining peace and other in the state.
The New Commissioner of Police, CP Dabkwambo Morris said the essence of the visit was to thank the governor for his hospitality as well as to interact and restate his loyalty to the governor as he described the visit as historic
CP Dabkwambo solicited the support of the governor in order to help him overcome any security challenges that may arise.
He said he was at the government house to unveil his action plans in line with the visions of the Inspector General of Police, which are to protect lives and property of the people, assuring that he will maintain and sustain all the proactive measures by his predecessors and improved on them to ensure that the people of the state sleep with their two eyes closed.
According to Dankwambo, some of his plans are to ensure he wipe out the remnants of shila boys, reinforce community policing as a way of policing a democratic set up through collaboration and engagement between the police, vigilante, the hunters and the stake holders which he described as positive and result oriented.
Earlier while introducing the new CP, the outgoing Commissioner of Police who is now promoted to the rank of AIG zone three, Afolabi Babatola said as the custom demands , it is the job of an outgoing commissioner of police to present the newly posted commissioner to the governor.
AIG Afolabi Babatola used the opportunity to appreciate governor Fintiri and the people of Adamawa State for their support and commitment to assist in security operations in different capacity.
