Youth in Lapan community of Shongom Local Government Area of Gombe state, have been advised to shun the intake of illicit drugs as it distroys their future.
The village head of Kalaku, Mr Napi Mohammed who spoke on behalf of other village heads of Lapan ward, made the call while addressing youths and women at a one day rally and sensitisation organized by lapan community development association tag “End Drug Abuse and Sales” held at Podwang Lapan, Gombe state.
According to Mr Napi, the effects of drugs abuse and illicit substance is very harmful to every society hence he advised the community to desists from the sales of whiskey and other illicit drugs in the community.
The village head also adviced those in the business to change their business or relocate to other communities that allows it.
Earlier in his lecture the Area Commander NDLEA CSN Ahmed Kyale, appreciated Lapan community for banning the sales of whiskey and other illicit drugs saying it weakens men and effect their mental health.
CSN Ahmed Kyale, promised the agency’s readiness to continue support their fight as it is there responsibility.
In her remarks, Lapan women representative Mrs kwayi Musa said the sensitization is timely as most men in their community fail to perform their duties in all aspects as a result of addiction to drugs.
Mrs Musa used the opportunity to thank the governor of the state, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for destroying some Gala houses and illegal drug houses in the state.
In his response, the coordinator of the program Mr Tanimu SANDA Waziri said the cries of the youth and married women for rescue motivated Lapan community to organize the program to enlightened the people on the dangers of drug addiction and to find solutions to save the community from collapsing, calling on neighboring communities to join hands in the fight against drug addiction.
