A forum of Education Administrators under the aegis of Supervisors and School Head Teachers has called on the Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board, ADSUBEB to investigate alleged administrative excesses and corrupt tendencies of the Education Secretary of Girei Local Education Authority, Mr. Mohammed Baba Tela.

In a complaint letter signed by the forum, addressed to the Executive Chairman, Adamawa State Universal Basic Education Board, the Education Administrators alleged that the area had continued to witness low level of pupils enrolment in spite of the existence of over 85 schools in the locality due the Secretary’s bad leadership style.

They alleged that Mr. Baba Tela had been collecting bribe to deploy or redeploy school administrators particularly those in urban centers.

According to members of the forum, computers supplied by UBEC to Dakri Primary School had been sold out by Mr. Mohammed Baba Tela.

Other allegations leveled against the Education Secretary are collecting gratification from some non-serious head teachers who are in the habit of absconding from duty post and demand for 50 per cent part of Supervisors and Head Teachers workshop allowances be paid into his account.

In addition, they also accused him of placing fine on certificates as well as impounding of schools management valuables like fans and instructional materials for his personal use.

The Schools administrators expressed worry that such excesses are at variance with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri’s effort of revamping and developing education at the grass root.

The Supervisors and Head Teachers therefore called on ADSUBEB to do the needful in checking the excesses of Mr. Mohammed Baba Tela the education secretary of Gerei Local Education Authority in line with extant civil service rules.

When contacted on Friday for his reaction over the allegations, the embattled Education Secretary, Mr. Mohammed Baba Tela told our correspondent that he was bereaved and he will call back on Monday.

Unfortunately on Monday when he was reminded on the need to hear his own side of the story, he declined further comment saying they have been warned talking to the media by the State Universal Basic Education Board.

The Acting Chairman of the Board Abdullahi Isma’il Dabai was also called on Friday but he could not answer the call and refused also to reply text message sent to his phone line.
