Adamawa State Governor,Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has caution the public, especially the youths to shun drug abuse and drug trafficking.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri gave this warning during a special jumaat prayer at Aggah Islamic centre as part of activities marking the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking organised by National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
Governor Umaru Fintiri called for collective in the eliminated of drug related crimes in the state and the country at large.
The governor said, government on it part will empower the youth by providing them with jobs and entrepreneurship skills.
According to him, the state government will complement the efforts of the NDLEA in addressing the menace of drug abuse and trafficking across Adamawa State.
He said, cases of drug abuse is more of concern at the urban areas but whatever measures being put in place by the state government at the centre, must equally reach the rural areas.
During the Friday sermon, the Chief Imam of Aggah Islamic Centre, Yola, Sheikh Hassan Minkail centred his teachings on the consequences of drug abuse in the society, call on the people to desist from all forms of drug abuse and trafficking.
Sheikh Minkail explained that taking of illicit substances and intoxicant such as drugs especially by the youths is forbidden in Islam and added no value to lives.
The Zonal Commander of NDLEA comparising Adamawa, Taraba and Gombe States led a delegation of officers of the agency to offer prayers for the service and nation.
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, or World Drug Day, is celebrated on June 26 every year to strengthen action and cooperation in achieving a world free of drug abuse.
This year’s theme is People first: stop stigma and discrimination, strengthen prevention.
