Adamawa State Government has flagged off the second quarter of ten thousand women empowerment under the Fintiri business wallet.
The event which took place at Ribadu square has in attendance women and youth from the 21 local government areas in the state.
In his remarks, governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri Said the significance of the event is a further reinforcement the government’s believe that the instrument of poverty alleviation must be institutional in both concept and operations.
Governor Fintiri said his government has created the agency for poverty and wealth creation not to only combat poverty but to build an institutional framework to support entrepreneurship and to restore the human dignity of a large segment of the population.
According to the governor, in the past five years his government has not been only carefully strategic in its poverty alleviation and wealth creation drive but methodologically deliberate and purposeful, as it has trained over forty five thousand youth in various trades and provided them with starter packs for their businesses through it skill development corridor.
Fintiri said his administration has moved ahead last year to launch the Fintiri business wallet for the women , a commerce corridor that reinforces commitment to wrestle poverty and open the doors for thousands of house holds to live saving businesses and prosperity.
The governor said what makes the Fintiri wallet unique is it deliberate focus on women starting with a grant of fifty thousand Naira to each ten thousand beneficiaries across the 21 local government areas of the state and it has empowered ten thousand beneficiaries already and it is now distributing the same amount to the same number of beneficiaries to support or start up their businesses.
The governor stated that most women enterprises are micro in size and operates in the informal sector which makes it difficult for them to access finances from credit facilities, yet they remain the life wire of households hence the need for the government to do it best to empower the women and male them financially stable.
He further reassured that government is sensitive to the hard times and economic crunch that the large population of the citizen are passing through, which called for both the government and the private sector to innovate cushioning measures that will ease the hardship.
In his key note address, the commissioner Ministry of entrepreneurship development, Hammanjumba Gartugel said the Fintiri business wallet has been established with clear mission to provide financial support to small business owners as the government provide conducive artmosphere for entrepreneurship grown and innovation.
In their separate goodwill messages, the speaker Adamawa State house of assembly Bathiya Wesley, Algon Chairman as well as beneficiaries thanked the governor for the support he has been rendering to the people of the state especially the women.
In a related development, Adamawa State Government has deployed additional thirty one luxurious busses in addition to the ten busses already deployed in order to cushion the transportation hardship the people in the state are facing.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who made the announcement during an event said this became necessary having seen the impact of test running the inter and intra mass transit system to cushion the transportation hardship on the people.
Governor Fintiri said government will handover the busses to the concerned operators for onward deployment for the usage of the people, as it allocated a substantial number of the buses to schools to fix transportation difficulties of the students.
According to governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, with the debate of the new minimum wage settled, the state government intended to recruit more applicants into the civil service of the state.
