The Adamawa State Local Government Biometric Implementation Committee has announced a 10-day re-verification exercise aimed at resolving salary irregularities that affected the February paychecks of thousands of local government staff and pensioners.
A member of the 17-man committee, Comrade Faisal Mohammed, disclosed this in Yola on Thursday ,assuring that the discrepancies experienced last month would be addressed.
According to Mohammed, the committee will commence sittings on Monday,9th March 2026 starting with members of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE).
He stated that the exercise would subsequently cover staff of the Local Education Authorities and Primary Health Care, followed by members of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP).
“The sitting to attend to the issues is for 10 days only. We are calling on those affected to visit the committee with their NIN and BVN printouts,” he said.
Mohammed who is also the Chairman of NUT, Adamawa State revealed that a total of 4,874 staff members were affected by the payroll issues.
This figure includes 1,357 teachers, as well as members of NULGE and the Nigeria Union of Pensioners.
He attributed the problem to technical challenges encountered during a recent biometric exercise.
These included issues with NIN enrollment, absenteeism during data capture, duplicate bank account numbers, and mismatched facial recognition data.
The committee member specifically cautioned workers against patronizing roadside vendors for NIN registration, noting that many of those facing salary shortfalls used such informal services.
Addressing concerns over a slight increase observed in some February salaries, Mohammed clarified that the adjustment was not a general pay rise but the implementation of leave grants, which have now been spread over 12 months for teachers.
He further assured that the implementation of long-awaited promotion arrears for teachers would commence immediately following the conclusion of the 10-day re-verification exercise.
