Advancing communication in humanitarian emergencies can only be achieved through media and humanitarian actors approach.
Lifeline Project Manager, BBC Media Action, Nicolas Raul disclosed this at a Lifeline training for local media and humanitarian actors in Yola, Adamawa State.
The Lifeline Project Manager, Nicolas Raul said for over twenty years BBC Media Action has been reaching out to audiences in assisting people affected by humanitarian crisis.
He stressed the role communication plays in humanitarian response hence the objective of the Lifeline training for local media and humanitarian actors in Adamawa and Borno States.
BBC Media Action trainers, and also Head of Production, Deji Arosho and Producer, Sumayya Ibrahim Yusuf who presented on the topics, the need to communicate and communication need assessment described communication as aid.
They stressed the need to carry everyone along in Lifeline communication adding that Lifeline communication should contain element of News values.
On his part, Mohammed Sani Bello also a Producer and trainer with BBC Media Action who made a presentation on rumors and two-way communication in a Lifeline situation, said rumors are detrimental even though some carry element of truth in them and therefore charged participants at the training to fact check before making any publication.
Participants who were drawn from different Local humanitarian organizations as well as the print and broadcast media in Adamawa and Borno States said the training is apt and pledged to put knowledge gained into practice.
