As Christians worldwide commemorate the resurrection of Jesus Christ, Parish Priest of Saint Justina’s Catholic Church, Maiyo-Dasa, Jalingo, Reverend Father Greg Nbashi, has urged the faithful to reflect on His sacrifice on the cross and deepen their relationship with Him.
In an interview with Radio Nigeria in Jalingo, Reverend Father Nbashi described Easter as the foundation of Christianity, symbolizing hope and new life.
He emphasized that Jesus’ death and resurrection reconciled humanity to God, empowering believers to overcome sin and live victorious lives.
“ Easter as it were is the centre of the Christian faith just as saint Paul would say if Christ had not risen then our faith would have been useless and even our preaching would have also been useless but indeed Christ has risen from the dead the first born from all those who have died, that is the essence of Easter,” he said.
Reverend Father Nbashi highlighted the three pillars of Lent, which include fasting, almsgiving, and prayer, stressing the importance of sustaining the lessons learned during the lenten season to live a life pleasing to God.
“At the end of this season, it is expected we should know God better and serve others in love because any religion worthy of the name must bring these two things together. That you claim to love God must be shown in the way you treat your brother or your sister who is next door to you, that is what makes a religion a true religion.”
Addressing current challenges in Nigeria, Reverend Father Nbashi encouraged Christians to maintain their faith, trusting in God’s promise to never forsake His children.
“The message I have for Christians in this season is for them to keep hope alive despite our challenges as a nation, it is just but a phase. At the end of it all, something glorious would come out of it because as Christians, we believe that all things turn around for good to them that love Christ.”
Easter is celebrated every year on the third day after the crucifixion of Jesus, and this year’s celebration falls on Sunday, 20th April
