Dangote Group commits to promoting education in host communities

In its continued efforts to promote educational activities in host communities, the Dangote Sugar Refinery (DSR) has organized a secondary school quiz competition as part of its Corporate Social Responsibilities.

 

 

The quiz competition which was held at the premises of Dangote Sugar Refinery High school, Numan on Tuesday, had in attendance qualified Secondary Schools from Demsa, Guyuk, Lamurde, Numan and Shelleng local government areas.

 

 

In his remarks during the event, the commissioner, Adamawa state ministry of Education, Doctor Garba Umar Pella who was represented by the permanent secretary in the ministry, Aisha Mohammed Umar said it is the responsibility of the ministry to attend educational activities in order to advice and commend the organizers, especially the private sector.

 

 

Garba Pella explained that the quiz competition will further enhance the knowledge of the students as well as encourage and motivate them to put in their best as there are prizes to be awarded at the end.

 

 

The Commissioner therefore assured that the ministry will continue to support activities of both private and public schools that engage in complementing the government’s efforts of tackling the menace of out of school children.

 

 

In his goodwill message, the Group Manager Operations Services, Bello Danmusa who was represented by the Chief executive of the Dangote sugar Refinery, Numan, Chinanya Sylvain appreciated both the participating schools and other guests who attended the event, stressing that the company has value for education being one of the sustainable development goals of the United Nations.

 

 

Danmusa thanked all the teachers who contributed to the success of this year’s quiz competition.

 

 

In their remarks, district heads and representatives of traditional rulers who graced the occasion appreciated the Dangote Sugar Refinery for what it has been doing for the communities, especially in the education sector, stressing that the quiz competition will strengthen the learning capacity of the children and encourage them to concentrate on studies.

 

 

Earlier in his welcome address, head of administration of Dangote Sugar refinery, Mr. Ude Nkama said the essence of introducing the quiz competition as part of it activities, was to make positive impact on its host communities.

 

 

Ude who highlighted that children are the leaders of tomorrow, expressed the commitment of Dangote group to prepare them for the future in terms of education.

 

 

At the end of the competition, Dangote Sugar Refinery High school emerged winner, while Demsa Local Government came second, followed by lamurde local government in third position.

 

 

In his closing remarks, the general community relations manager, Daniel Andrew thanked the management of Dangote Sugar Refinery Numan operations for organizing the competition and the state ministry of education as well as traditional leaders for gracing the occasion.

 

 

Secondary schools from Demsa, Guyuk, Lamurde, Shelleng, Numam and the host , Dangote Sugar Refinery (DSR) High school participated in the quiz competition.
