Dangote Sugar Refinery, Numan Operations, has hosted its annual secondary schools quiz competition, with Government Day Secondary School, Demsa, emerging as the winner of this year’s edition.
The annual event, which featured five secondary schools representing the host communities of Numan, Demsa, Shelleng, Guyuk and Lamurde Local Government Areas, took place at the company’s premises in Numan Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Garba Umar Pella, who was represented by a staff member of the ministry, Ruth Stanley, commended Dangote Sugar Refinery for consistently organising the annual quiz competition in a fair and transparent manner, giving equal opportunities to all participating schools.

Government Day Secondary School, Demsa, emerged winner of this year’s competition, defeating Dangote Sugar Refinery High School and Government Secondary School, Numan, which came second and third respectively.
The Best Performing Student Award also went to Victoria Nafama John of Government Day Secondary School, Demsa.
The management of Dangote Sugar Refinery reaffirmed its commitment to creating lasting value for its host communities through free education, scholarships, school infrastructure development and other initiatives aimed at improving access to quality education.
According to the management, the quiz competition is part of its Corporate Social Responsibility and sustainability initiative introduced five years ago to promote quality education, academic excellence and youth empowerment across its host communities in the Numan Federation.
In a remark on behalf of the Hama Bachama, represented by the District Head of Lafiya, Clement Minakaro, the traditional institution commended Dangote Sugar Refinery for its sustained efforts in promoting quality education across its host communities.
The annual secondary schools quiz competition, an initiative of Dangote Sugar Refinery, was introduced to support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal on quality education.
The 2026 competition brought together over 150 students and teachers from secondary schools across Numan, Guyuk, Shelleng, Demsa and Lamurde Local Government Areas, with participants competing in Mathematics, Social Sciences and Agricultural Science.
