Senator Oluremi Tinubu, the wife of the President, has announced plans to launch a National Community Food Bank Project whose primary objective is addressing child malnutrition and improving access to nutritious food for vulnerable groups across Nigeria.
Senator Tinubu announced this during the distribution of food items to persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) in Taraba State.
Represented by the Wife of the Vice-President, Hajiya Nana Shettima, the First Lady said the National Community Food Bank Project will be launched towards the end of this year in Borno State in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the National Primary Health Care Development Agency, and the Bank of Agriculture.
According to her, the project is designed to strengthen community support systems and ensure that every child has the opportunity to grow and thrive.
While handing over the food items to the Taraba State Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative and Wife of the Governor, Agyin Kefas, the First Lady emphasised the importance of ensuring that the items were distributed to the intended beneficiaries across the state.
The wife of the President also revealed that the food support programme, which began in 2024, has already covered 24 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, with Taraba State emerging as the latest beneficiary. She said the initiative was designed to complement the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu, which focuses on improving the welfare of Nigerians, particularly vulnerable groups.
Agbu Kefas, Taraba State Governor, commended the Renewed Hope Initiative for the intervention, describing it as a demonstration of compassionate leadership and commitment to addressing the challenges faced by ordinary Nigerians.
Governor Kefas said the programme reflects strong collaboration among key stakeholders, including the leadership of the initiative, wives of governors, and development partners across the country.
Agyin Kefas, the Wife of the Taraba State Governor, expressed optimism that the intervention would help cushion the effects of the current economic hardship on vulnerable groups in the state.
She assured the leadership of the Renewed Hope Initiative of Taraba State’s continued partnership in advancing the objectives of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
