In our contemporary society, the duties of Nigerian police keeps expanding everyday as a result of the dynamic security environment, population expansion and technology.
Though the mandatory role of the police as prescribed by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) include; maintaining law and order, Protecting citizens and property, averting and investigating crime.
Other responsibilities are providing community support, responding to emergency calls, enforcement of laws and regulations, collaborating with other law enforcement agencies and gathering intelligence to prevent criminal activities.
As a result of the dynamic security environment, Police authorities nowadays are over stretched especially as a result of the incursion of new crime enterprises ranging from cyber crime, kidnappings, money laundering and transborder crimes.
Here in Adamawa state, Shila gangsterism has become an surging crime that has proven difficult to contain.
Only gallant and resourceful crime fighters can nip these new wave of crimes in the bud.
Morris Dankombo, the present Commissioner of Police, Adamawa state is the last man standing. Since he took over from his predecessor,Afolabi Babalola who was promoted to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, the narrative of crime control has changed in line with the IG’s guiding principles.
These could be attributed to the wealth of experience he acquired in crime management skills, civility, media friendly and above all the synergy Morris Dankombo established with Adamawa state government with Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri harping on the importance of collaboration with the police and other security Agencies in bringing crime to the bearest minimum in the state..
Apart from enhancing inter-Security Agencies collaboration,CP Morris Dankombo rejigged the Adamawa state Police Command with Combatants heading departments.He deployed surveillance and operational assets within Jimeta Metropolis and across all the 21 local government areas through his Divisional Police officers.
A robust and navagated Public Relations Unit headed by a consummate PR Officer,SP Suleiman Nguroje.
He embraced stakeholders, Police Community Relations, civil Society Organizations and established Associate membership with Nigeria Union of Journalists to streamline Police -Media relationship.
Patrol Vans are always within strategic junctions while markets, worship centres,Hotels and recreational centres and schools are always under surveillance.
Dankombo distributed about 500 leathers of satchet waters to protesters and give others transport money back to their respective homes during the hunger Nationwide protest in Adamawa state.
Police welfare has been paramount with officers appearing in uniforms neatly on their duty posts.
The officers tactical capabilities and morale have been rejuvenated with recommendations for prompt promotions while entitlements of the fallen ones have been offsetted.
Upon his unparallel and uncommon performance, the Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya extended his warmest congratulations for exceptional qualities.
MEET CP MORRIS DANKOMBO.
CP Morris Dankombo is a Gombe -born trained Police officer.
He hails from Kaltungu Local Government Area,Gombe State, Northeast -Nigeeria.
Dankombo as fondly called has an academic, administrative and social dispositions because he holds a BA (Hons) in History, from University of Maiduguri, Borno State and MA International Relations.
He was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force in the year 1992 as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police and rose through the ranks up to his present position.
Over the long years in the Force, CP Dankombo attended several tactical leadership courses both within and outside the Country, few among include;-
– Combat/Operational course ( Mobile training camp, Gwoza)
– Citizenship and Leadership course (Sheri Hills, Jos plateau State)
-Advanced Detective Course (ADC Psc Jos 2001)
– Central planning and Training unit (CPTU, PSC JOS 2001)
– Community policing Developer course (Psc, Jos, 2005)
– Crime fighting Stimulation training exercises ( Armed force Stimulation center, Jaji(2014)
-Strategic Leadership and Command Course (Psc Jos, 2017)
He supretended several Command positions and carried out multiple tasks in his illustrious career. Some of which are;
Patrol and Guard, Administrative Officer and Divisional Crime officer in Bali Local Govenment Area, Taraba State.(1y him 1997)
Chief Superintendent of Police Administration (CSP A, Bauchi Command)
Divisional police officer, Bali, Taraba State, Hadejia, Jigawa state , Gamboru Ngala, Borno State and Owerri West Division, Imo State (2013- 2018)
Directing Staff (PSC, Jos,) Area Commander, Birni Gwari, Kaduna and Rano Kano States (2018- 2019)
He was the Deputy Commissioner of Police Administration and Operations , Adamawa State Police Command before he was appointed substantive Commissioner of Police.
The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo as attested by some top notches of the Police has the requisite Integrity, courage and experience to oversee the Policing affairs in Adamawa State.
