The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed essential learning materials to 670 students at Government Junior Secondary School, Idi, in Gombe State.
The intervention aims to improve learning while encouraging students to attend school regularly.

Speaking during the distribution exercise, the Head of Inventory of the NEDC in Gombe State, Rufai Baba Manu, said the initiative was designed to improve the learning environment and motivate more children to attend school.
He said the Commission recognises education as a critical tool for the development of the North-East and would continue to support initiatives aimed at improving access to quality education.
Rufai Baba Manu said providing students with essential learning materials would help improve their academic performance and encourage regular school attendance.

The Gombe State Commissioner for Education, Professor Aishatu Maigari, commended the NEDC for the intervention, describing it as an important contribution to the development of education in the state.
Professor Maigari stressed the importance of collaboration between government and development organisations in addressing the educational needs of schools and students.
She assured that the Gombe State Government would continue to welcome partnerships aimed at improving the standard of education.
The Permanent Secretary, Gombe State Ministry of Education, Ali Yahaya, said the provision of learning materials would make a significant difference, particularly for students who may not have adequate resources for their studies.
The Permanent Secretary called for sustained collaboration between the NEDC and the Gombe State Government to extend similar interventions to more schools.
The Principal of Government Junior Secondary School, Idi, Zainab Yakubu, who described the intervention as timely, said the materials would contribute to creating a better learning environment and appealed to the Commission to sustain and expand its support to the school.
The principal also appealed to the Gombe State Government to recruit more teachers for the school, saying additional teaching staff are needed to effectively cater for the growing number of students and improve the quality of instruction.
