The Northern Governors Wives’ Forum has empowered two hundred persons with twenty million naira in Adamawa State as part of activities marking the International Day of Charity.
The intervention forms part of the Forum’s Second Tri-Annual Meeting held in Yola.
The beneficiaries, who received one hundred thousand naira each, are expected to use the financial support to strengthen their businesses and improve their livelihoods.
The Forum also provided food and non-food items to one thousand vulnerable households, including bags of rice, spaghetti, cooking oil, mats and duvets, to cushion the effects of the economic hardship.
Speaking during the event, the Wife of the Adamawa State Governor, Dr Lami Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, described the empowerment of women, men and youths as a shared commitment to promoting economic independence, entrepreneurship, skills development and sustainable livelihoods.
She urged the beneficiaries to make proper use of the support and become ambassadors of hope and positive change in their communities.
Earlier, the Northern Governors wives’ led by the Chairperson and Wife of the Gombe State Governor, Hajiya Asma’u Inuwa Bello, visited the Specialist Hospital, Yola, where they commissioned a newly renovated Labour Room, Special Baby Care Complex and CT Scan Centre.
The facilities, renovated through the initiative of Hajiya Lami Fintiri, are expected to strengthen maternal and newborn healthcare and improve access to diagnostic services.
The Forum also paid a courtesy visit to the Lamido Adamawa, Dr Mohammadu Barkindo Aliyu Musdafa, to brief him on its activities and condole him over the death of the former Governor of the defunct Gongola State, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.
The two-day meeting is focused on strengthening collaboration among the wives of Northern Governors and advancing initiatives in healthcare, women’s empowerment, child welfare and support for vulnerable families across the region.
