Taraba State Governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas has flagged off the distribution of 25 National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) data capture machines to the 16 local government areas of the state.
Governor Kefas, who launched the distribution in Jalingo, said the initiative is aimed at strengthening the enrolment process and enabling more residents to register for the National Identification Number (NIN) in Taraba State.
The Governor explained that the distribution of the machines forms part of his administration’s efforts to support the Federal Government’s target of achieving 95 percent enrolment of citizens in the national identity database.
Dr. Kefas also charged local government chairmen, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and political stakeholders to ensure the machines are distributed across the state and used strictly for the intended purpose.
In a remark, Taraba State Coordinator of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), Serah Babangida, thanked Governor Kefas for procuring the equipment, noting that it would significantly enhance the enrolment process across the state.
According to the state coordinator, the launch goes beyond a ceremonial presentation, it is a strategic investment in the future of Taraba residents. She said it reflects a clear understanding that identity is the foundation for access to essential services, social protection, effective national planning, and security coordination.
Babangida further assured the Governor that the commission would deploy the machines transparently and efficiently.
