Troops smash notorious kidnapping syndicate in Taraba State.

Troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/ Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke have dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing parts of Jalingo and Lau Local Government Areas of Taraba State.

 

In a statement signed and made available to newsmen by Acting Assistant Director Six Brigade Army Public Relations, Captain OLUBODUNDE Oni explained that Troops raided a local hotel in Mayo Dassa, Jalingo, on October 22nd apprehending Ali Idi and Haruna Umar.

According to the statement, searching the phones of the suspects revealed incriminating evidence, including a photo of Haruna brandishing an AK-47.

 

The statement reads in part “Further investigations led to the discovery that the gang’s hideout was at Kona Mountain in Jalingo LGA, where additional members of the syndicate were believed to be camped.”

 

Captain Oni stated that acting on credible reports, they conducted a follow-up operation at Kona Mountain, where gang leader Dahiru Idi (aka “Yellow”) was captured on October 23rd.

The gang leader confessed to kidnapping three individuals, collecting a ransom of 6 million Naira before their release.

 

Items recovered from the suspects include: 3 Rings, 1 Airtel Sim card, 1 itel Phone, Indian hemp, and Charms.

 

Commenting on the operation, Brigade Commander Six Brigade, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa thanked Taraba residents for supporting the brigade.

 

“Combating terrorism is our priority. We’ll ensure safety and protection,” he stated.

 

Uwa further urged vigilance, encouraging citizens to report suspicious activities.
