The Anglican Arch Bishop of Jos Province, the Most Reverend Bishop Amfani Ibrahim Markus has assessed Nigeria’s 25 years of democratic governance as progressive and excellent compared to other nations that witnessed broken democracies through toppling of governments.
Bishop Amfani who is also the Anglican Bishop of Yola Diocese attributed the present prevailing predicaments in the nation to leaders who are only fetching for themselves.
The Cleric made the pronouncement during an interview with our reporter in his office on Nigeria’s 25th Democracy Day.
He said those leaders entrusted with responsibilities to govern the nation at various levels have hijacked the economy leaving the masses in pains.
“Leaders are contented but masses are suffering, what would sixty thousand naira buy in the market for 30days as minimum wage?”
According to him, Nigeria is self sufficient to feed it’s citizens despite the growing population, infrastructure and institutions.
“The Journey has been good compared to world power nations whom we have borrowed democracy from, look at Abuja,Lagos, including Abia the backward state in nation, they have all changed with good infrastructure and institutions,not every thing we can condemned!! Condemned!!!
But 25 years of democratic governance is progressive as a nation.
Only that Government did not systematically look inward to control the challenges as population grows and institutions”
The Bishop who gave references to the flourishing dividends of democracy in Adamawa state under Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri called for intercession in prayers for the nation to survive as one entity.
He pleaded with President Tinubu’s administration to increase the minimum wage to at least over one hundred thousand naira to enable a common worker meet up the competing demands in the market.
The Anglican Bishop congratulated all Nigerians and urged them to be law abiding citizens.
