The Defence Headquarters has inaugurated a General Court Martial to try thirty six serving military personnel over an alleged breach of national security.
The personnel are accused of mutiny, with claims that they were involved in actions aimed at overthrowing the government.
A statement by the Director Defence Information, Major General Samaila Uba, says the inauguration of the court martial is a major step toward reinforcing discipline, accountability, and the Armed Forces’ commitment to protecting national integrity and constituted authority.
The Defence Headquarters assured that proceedings will be conducted with the highest standards of fairness and impartiality, in strict adherence to due process.
It also emphasized that all cases will be handled within established legal frameworks, ensuring justice is served without fear or favour.
The military authority reaffirmed its commitment to professionalism, discipline, and the rule of law, while guaranteeing that the rights of all personnel involved will be respected and upheld.
