The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, says improving the welfare of police personnel and providing a conducive working environment are essential to effective policing and enhanced security across the country.
He stated this during the inauguration of the newly built Taraba State Police Command Headquarters in Jalingo.
The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, said the new headquarters would provide a more conducive work environment for officers and men of the force, which will enable them carry out their duties more effectively.
The IGP described the project as a major milestone, noting that it is the first permanent police command headquarters to be built in Taraba State since the state’s creation in 1991.
IGP Olatunji Disu, represented at the event by the Taraba State Commissioner of Police, CP Morkwap Dongshal, commended the Federal Government, the Taraba State Government, the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, and other stakeholders for their contributions towards the successful completion of the project.
He appealed to traditional and religious leaders, community groups, civil society organisations, and the media to continue partnering with security agencies by providing timely and credible information to support efforts at maintaining peace and security.
Also speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Alhaji Mohammed Sheidu, said the inauguration of the new facility reflects the Federal Government’s commitment to strengthening security infrastructure, improving police welfare and building a modern police force capable of addressing emerging security challenges.
In his remarks, Taraba State Governor, Dr Agbu Kefas, represented by the Commandant of the Taraba Marshals, retired Commissioner of Police Abe Cyril, said the inauguration of the edifice was a significant step towards strengthening security infrastructure and improving policing in the state.
The Governor commended the Nigeria Police Force and the Nigeria Police Trust Fund for the project and assured continued support from the state government to enhance security and ensure the safety of lives and property across Taraba State.
