Communal crises have continued to displace families, destroy critical infrastructure, disrupt farming, economic activities, and undermine livelihoods across northeastern Nigeria, with women, children and petty traders among the worst affected.
To support conflict-affected communities, the North East Development Commission was established to provide humanitarian assistance, rebuild damaged infrastructure and help restore livelihoods.
In Adamawa State, Lamurde Local Government Area is among the communities affected by recent communal crises.
As part of its humanitarian response to affected communities, the North East Development Commission distributed relief materials to victims of the recent communal crisis in Lamurde Local Government Area.
The NEDC Adamawa State Coordinator, Khalifa Lawal, represented by the Commission’s Manager of Corporate Services, Musa Usman, reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to providing timely humanitarian assistance to vulnerable communities.
He urged community leaders to ensure that the relief materials are distributed fairly, transparently and strictly to the intended beneficiaries.
The Coordinator also called on residents to embrace peace, unity and reconciliation, stressing that lasting development can only thrive in a peaceful environment.
In separate remarks, the Member representing Demsa,Numan,Lamurde Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Kwamoti La’ori, and the Chairman of Lamurde Local Government Area, Bulus Daniel, commended the NEDC for its prompt intervention, describing the gesture as timely and impactful.
They urged residents to continue promoting peaceful coexistence, mutual understanding and unity to prevent future conflicts.
Morrison Leasado who spoke on behalf of the Community Leaders, expressed appreciation to the Commission and the federal lawmaker for the intervention and assured that the relief materials would be distributed fairly to those most affected by the crisis, in line with the Commission’s guidelines.
The relief materials were formally handed over by Kwamoti La’ori to the Chairman of Lamurde Local Government Area, Bulus Daniel, for onward distribution to the affected communities.
The items included 250 bags of 25-kilogramme rice, 250 cartons of spaghetti, 250 five-litre containers of vegetable oil, as well as 600 mats and blankets to cushion the hardship faced by victims of the crisis.
