The All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Engineer Usman Maijama’a Kallamu, has won the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency bye-election held on Saturday.
Declaring the result, the Returning Officer of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Abubakar Gurama, said Kallamu polled 41,121 votes to defeat other candidates.
Gaddafi Haruna of the APM scored 872 votes, Yahaya Muhammad of the APP got 298, Maigari Jungode of the Labour Party polled 3,553, while Abdulkarim Kwami of the NDP secured 707 votes.
Professor Gurama said 47,301 votes were cast, out of which 46,551 were valid and 750 rejected.
The bye-election was conducted to fill the vacant seat in the House of Representatives following the death of the former representative, Yaya Bauchi Tongo.
The election took place across 903 polling units in 31 Registration Areas covering Gombe, Kwami and Funakaye Local Government Areas.
