A Stakeholders’ Engagement Meeting aimed at ending gender-based violence at the grassroots level has been organized by wife of the Adamawa state governor Hajiya Lami Umaru Fintiri.
The meeting was held in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund UNFPA through the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development at the Government House in Yola.
Hajiya Lami Umaru Fintiri emphasized the need for stakeholders to campaign against the ill effects of gender-based violence at the grassroots level, enabling communities to take measures to curb the menace.
She also stressed the importance of reporting any incidents of gender-based violence to the appropriate authorities.
The wife of the governor urged women stakeholders to disseminate the message and create awareness about the issue.
Hajiya Lami encouraged them to take action and make a positive impact.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Neido Kufolto, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the state ministry, Zainab Adamu, advocated for stiffer penalties for those who engage in gender-based violence in the state.
The commissioner commended the wife of the governor for her efforts to end gender-based violence in the state.
The stakeholders, comprising of wives of the local government chairmen, wives of the the house of assembly and wives of the permanent Secretaries attended the engagement meeting to end gender based violence.
