As the state marks the closing day of the 16-day activism campaign, wife of the Adamawa State Governor, Hajiya Lami Umaru Fintiri has called for collective efforts to promote accountability and end gender-based violence in the state.
The wife of the governor made the call during a fashion parade and beauty pageant held at the Government House in Yola, aimed at teaching young girls the importance of modest dressing.
Hajiya Lami Fintiri emphasized the need to instill values of self-respect and dignity in the female child, encouraging them to embrace their identity while promoting positive societal norms.
She appealed to parents, stakeholders, mentors, traditional rulers, and religious leaders to work together to create a safe and equitable environment for all.
The wife of the governor stressed that empowering young women and reinforcing the message that they deserve to live free from violence and discrimination is crucial.
The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Neido Kufolto, represented by the Permanent Secretary of the state ministry, Zainab Adamu, urged women to take responsibility for their actions and report any violence around them.
The commissioner applauded the state government, its partners, and the office of the governor’s wife for the successful activities during the 16-day activism campaign against gender-based violence.
The Head of the United Nations Population Fund, Dr. Danladi Idris, commended the Adamawa State Government for enhancing girl child education and combating gender-based violence.
The closing ceremony of the 16-day activism campaign featured a fashion parade with students from different high institutions in the state.
Out of 13 participating institutions, College of Health Michika emerged third, Law School Yola came second, and the queen of the 16-day activism campaign was from Adamawa State Polytechnic Yola.
The participants received prizes and cash donations.
