Adamawa state government has called on farmers and herders in the state to continue to maintain peace and avoid unnecessary conflict especially during the ongoing harvest season.
Adamawa state governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri stated this while flagging off 2023 mass vaccination campaign against transboundary animal diseases, held in Girei local government area of the state.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri who was represented by the chief of staff government house yola, Doctor Edgar Amos at the flag off ceremony said government will continue to be fair, just and firm in ensuring lasting peace and security in the state.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri said agriculture, and the livestock subsector particular is the major contributor of the state’s gross domestic product, socio economic livelihood and industrial development of the state hence the need for establishing a dedicated ministry that will address challenges associated with the production of livestock in the state.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri said his administration has supported the national livestock transformation as well as the state livestock transformation plan and other livestock transformation projects which have direct bearing on livestock production and sustainable agricultural practices in the state.
According to the governor, the flag off of the vaccine will also enhance public health not only by ensuring the availability of healthy meat and milk for public consumption, but also reduce the prevalence of zoonotic diseases which are also transmissible from animals to humans.
As he officially declared the vaccine opened, the governor therefore called on all livestock owners in the state to cooperate with veterinary doctors and livestock officers who will be administering the vaccines.
The Commissioner for livestock and aquaculture development Tijjani Maksha said the vaccination campaign is for the contagious bovine pleuropneumonia and the pest Des petitis ruminants affecting sheep and goats.
Both the Chairman and district head of Girei local government area Juda Amisa and Ahmed ibrahim Mustafa commended governor Fintiri for his administration’s support to Girei and livestock sub sector describing the move as a way of ensuring sustained public health, as well as economic growth and development.
Highlight of the event was the administering of the vaccine by the governor, cultural dance and drama by the troupe of the Adamawa state art council.
