The Nigerian Society of Anaesthetists NSA has advocated for the improved health system, and welfare of workers to enhance the treatment of cancer in the country.
The president of the NSA Dr Busola Alagbe Briggs stated this during the 31st annual scientific and gene l meeting in Gombe with the theme Anaesthesia and perioperative care of patients with cancer.
Dr Busola said cancer requires surgery hence anaesthetists play a major role by ensuring that patients are fit for the procedure and also work with the surgeons and nurses to ensure its success.
In his remark, the Gombe State Commissioner for Health Dr Habu Dahiru said the Gombe State Government has invested a lot in the health sector by renovating and constructing new hospitals and purchasing cutting-edge technology machines to improve the health care system in the States.
He said the establishment of Gombe State Health Care Management Agency Go-Health has helped to address the issue of cancer treatment in the state.
Speaking at the event, a Professor at the Modibbo Adama University Yola Professor Muhammad Bello Raji said this year’s meeting aims to sensitize their members on the effect of anesthesia on cancer patients’ recovery from surgery.
Professor Raji who emphasized the importance of taking care of cancer patients called on governments at all levels to improve Nigeria’s health care system and that of the workers for effective treatment.
