An Associate Professor, encourages the public to venture into goat rearing to become self reliant.

Goat rearing has been identified as an economical and profitable venture that the public can partake in to boost their income and attain self reliance.

 

An associate professor, department of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry, Modibbo Adama University, Yola, Adamawa State Yusuf Damagum, made the assertion at a maiden training on goat rearing, organized by Waniltu Academy in collaboration with Local Apprenticeship Scheme, LAS family network in Yola Adamawa State.

 

The associate Professor, Yusuf Damagun, said rearing of goat amongst other livestock animals is very economical because it provides both domestic and commercial values capable of growing the economic GDP of the State and the Nation.

He said goat produce especially the milk serves as substitute to baby milk in the event where a mother dies during childbirth or her breast cannot produce milk.

 

The associate Professor added that goat meat being the healthiest amongst fleshy protein, can also serve as source of food for the family especially in the current economic situation.

 

Damagum further explained that rearing of goat requires a very hygienic environment and therefore encouraged the enrollees of the training and the general public to seek required knowledge for bumper yield.

 

Earlier in an opening remark, Chief Executive Officer, Local Apprenticeship Scheme, LAS family network, Sani Jada said LAS has provided sources of livelihood through various skills acquisition training for people especially youths from within and outside Adamawa State.

Jada therefore encouraged participants to step down knowledge gained during the training as a way of putting into practice knowledge gained in other to become professionals in goat rearing and for bumper yield.

Participants at the training were full of gratitude for the opportunity to learn the goat rearing skills and expressed readiness to put knowledge gained into practice.

The goat rearing training organized by Waniltu Academy in collaboration with Local Apprenticeship Scheme, LAS family network is a five weeks course aimed at transmitting professional knowledge to interested participants in order to make them self reliant.
