The annual quarter guard inter brigade corporal and below competition of the Nigerian Army has opened today in Yola with participants from 6 different brigades in the country.
The annual competition hosted by the commander 23 Brigade of the Nigerian Army Gibson Jalo Cantonment in Yola Brigadier general MJ Gambo was carried out with the attendance of uniformed military personnel and the participants dressed with their different unit colors.
The competition was conducted between 6 formations representing their brigades comprised 6 brigade from Jalingo, 23 brigade from Yola, 33 Artillery brigade from Bauchi, 43 Engineer Brigade From Jos Plateau, 52 Signal Brigade also from Jos, and 3D brigade from Jos as well.
In his adress of welcom, general commanding officer 3 division Major general AB Ibrahim represented by the division’s training officer brigadier general S Adamu, said the 3 division Inter brigade and corporal and below competition is part of series of Nigerian Army Training activities outlined for this year, with the objective to train and instill practice to all soldiers in combat and physical fitness activities in oder to adequately prepare them for the day to day operational task such as counter insurgencies and internal security challenges that they witness both inernal and external.
He added that the essence of the competition was to also ensure that the entire officers attend the desired level of operational readiness in fulfilment of the chief of Army Staff vision which is half the profession of the Nigerian Army ready to accomplish assigned mission within the entire environments in defense of Nigeria.
The competition, wich will span for the next 3 days, will showcase the participants’ skills perfomances in combat swimming, navigation of map reading, shooting and weapon handling, quater guard and competition in which it is expected to end on thursday with the presentation of trophies to the deserved winners
The 6 participating formations represented members of their various brigades had perfomed colourfully at the opening part of the excercise appearing in a uniform and coloured style of parades.
High points of the opening session of the competition were parades, drums beats among others drills.
