Parents have been advised to allow their children participate in sporting activities being part of lucrative business nowadays.
The chairman Gombe state athletic association, Ahmed shuaibu Gara made the call while presenting certificates and sport kits to the twenty five students of the Gombe state athletic academy.
He said the Idea behind the establishment of the academy is to serve as a preparing ground to train and exposed the talent endowed by the students, so as to take part at the national and international athletic competitions.
The director sports, Gombe state sports commission, Mrs Zainab Ishiaku, described the Idea as a step forward to the development of sports in the state, calling on parents not to consider sporting activities of their children as a waste of time, as it might be the means of their livelyhood.
Mrs Zainab assured parents not to panic due to indecency in sport camps, as adequate measures are in place to protect the images and culture of the students.
In a remarks the desk officer at the state universal basic Education board malam Abdullahi Musa Dukku, commended the gesture of the proprietor of the academy, Ahmed shuaibu Gara, and described it as massive contribution to one of the board’s responsibiliies in the area of sports development.
Malam Abdullahi said on their own part, they are ready to support any philanthropist who resolved to invest in sporting activities especially from the grassroots.
Meanwhile a father to Zainab Ahmadu Nafada, who emerged the overall winner at the Gombe athletic competition said, he is proud of his daughter and pledged to give her all the necessary support for her to excel in future competitions.
The students of the academy who are twenty five in number, have been presented with two pairs of sports kit, two pairs of school uniform, two cartons of indomie noddles and half crate of eggs as well as powdered milk among other materials.
