The Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, Jalingo and District Society, has inaugurated its second chairman and district executive members to lead the institute for the next two years.
The investiture ceremony, held in Jalingo the Taraba state capital, was attended by prominent stakeholders including the 16th National President of the Institute, Samuel Agbeluyl, Chairman of the Taraba State Board of Internal Revenue, Brigadier General Jeremiah Aliyu Faransa, retired and Taraba State Accountant General, Mr. Gaius Danjuma.
Felicitating the newly elected chairman and other executives, the 16th national president of the institute, Samuel Agbeluyl commended the outgoing pioneer chairman’s leadership qualities and his ability to drive the institute to the height it has attained.
Agbeluyl charged the new executives to be proactive, inclusive, and as well organise capacity-building training for both tax collectors and payers in order to enhance productivity and encourage tax payment.
Brigadier General Faransa, retired, who was the host of the event, highlighted the importance of revenue collection in achieving Taraba State’s development goals.
He pointed out that upon his assumption of office, he insisted Taraba state began to operate a single treasury account, TSA which according to him has blocked so many financial leakages and has increased the revenue base of the state.
He said with the administration of Dr. Agbu Kefas, it won’t be business as usual because things must be done the right way.
He therefore urged the new leadership of the institute and Tarabans to join hands with the governor to build the Taraba of their dreams.
Earlier, while welcoming the national president of the institute and his team to Taraba state, Chairman of the occasion, who is the Taraba state accountant General, Mr. Gaius Danjuma described the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria as a professional body with an excellent track record, which he believes can contribute to the progress of Taraba state.
Delivering a lecture on the topic,” Enhancing revenue collection efficiency to reduce physical dependency of Taraba state” Professor James Alabede, with the aid of statistical presentation, revealed that more than thirty states in Nigeria including Taraba state rely heavily on federal accounts to fund their annual budget, emphasising that government at the sub-national levels must source for ways to accelerate internally generated revenue collection, moving forward.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected chairman, Mr Luka Joel Maza, expressed his gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of their election and investiture ceremony.
He promised that he and his team would not disappoint the confidence repose on them as they would stir the affairs of the institute based on professional ethics.
The outgoing chairman offered support to the new leadership, and awards were presented to dignitaries, including Brigadier General Faransa (retd) and Mr. Danjuma.
The newly elected officials include: Mr. Luka Joel Maza-chairman, Mrs. Alice Alexander Sam-Tsokea- vice chairman, Mr. shamsudeen Haruna- Secretary, Mrs. Ruth Ezekiel – Deputy vice chairman, Mr. Ibrahim Baido- Assistant secretary, Mrs. Julian Amos- Treasurer, Mr. Umar Abdullkadir- financial secretary, and two Ex-officers, Mrs. Dorthy Emmanuel and Mr. Waziri Idris.
