Hike in prices of commodities in the markets during Ramadan, has been described as a major factor that brings hardship to both the Muslims and the non Muslim communities.
At a Ramadan lecture organized by the Jama’atu Nasril Islam Adamawa state, Yola branch, Islamic scholars attributed the situation to lack of empathy, pity and patriotism by some marketers.
In a keynote address, The Wakili Malamai Adamawa, Sheikh Modibbo Sufyanu, identified the elements that constitute true relationship between Allah and his servants which is the ultimate reason behind the fasting of Ramadan, through which Allah has commanded the believers to observe, as annual occurrence to strengthen their faith and to also be kind and emphatic to one another.
Modibbo Sufyanu who called on the Muslims to enter Ramadan with good intention, also called on the traders on the other hand, to be merciful to buyers so as to receive multiple rewards from Allah.
Dr. Mukhtar Hassan, also admonished people to fear Allah and be considerate to the less privileged pointing out that Muslims only observe Ramadan, if there is peace, and harmless atmosphere.
Earlier, Chairman Jama’atu Nasril Islam Yola North branch, Bello Muhammad Modibbo, said the theme for the Ramadan lecture “Why the hikes in prices of commodities during Ramadan and the remedy”, underscores the importance of organising the lecture which had the attendance of some associations of traders within Adamawa state to look for solutions to the situation.
Some of the representatives of marketers and traders in the state including Gwari Association and ‘Yan Lemo Marketers, called for understanding between themselves, the buyers and the government noting that there are some indices that promote hikes in the prices such as transportation costs, and lack of the availability of goods at the local markets.
There were goodwill messages from chairman Yola North local government, Barrister Jibrin Ibrahim, the representatives of police, the DSS, Nigerian Army, and other security personnel.
