Conflict affected Communities are often faced with social, economic and political challenges, which can have long-lasting effects.
Conflict can result in loss of lives, displacement of individuals and families, destruction of infrastructure and economic instability.
Suspicion and mistrust among individuals, also increases leading to breakdown of social cohesion and worsening social impact of conflict.
In this report, Aisha Mohammed takes a look at how the livelihood of conflict affected communities can be restored through social cohesion.
While stressing the need to rebuild the livelihood of conflict affected population through social cohesion, District Heads of Bazza, Sa’ad Bashir, Michika 2 Ngida Zakawa Kwache and Mohammed Dahiru Muda Dlaka Wards, of Michika Local Government area of Adamawa State, one of the worst hit by insurgency in 2014, said the importance of unity cannot be over emphasized.
They therefore called on members of the society to embrace peace and unity for the development of the Nation and expressed gratitude to the German Government and its implementing partners for the interventions.
On his part, Country Director, OXFAM Nigeria, John Makina expressed appreciation to Adamawa State government and people of Michika Local Government area for the enabling environment and embracing the intervention brought to their communities.
The support to improving Social Cohesion through Community Development Planning in sixteen Wards of Michika Local Government area of Adamawa State was launched by the German Government on the 24 August 2023 to restore the livelihood of communities in the areas of agriculture, education, health, water sanitation, knowledge on Climate change among other things.
The project was rolled out in phases to include coming up with Community Development Planning document, development of Michika Local budget, Town Hall meeting, grant competitions to encourage members of the community to carry out Self-help projects for rapid development of the area.
At the close-out review meeting of the project, the German Government and its implementing partners OXFAM , CEPAD and CRUDAN were optimistic that the Adamawa State government and members of the sixteen Wards of Michika Local Government area will sustain the gains of the project and replicate same across other Local Government Areas of the State especially in the area of food security.
