The People With Disabilities and Vulnerable Support Initiative, ADPWDVSI, has sought the partnership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Adamawa State Council, to promote disability inclusion, youth leadership, and the rights of vulnerable groups in the state.

The organisation’s Head of Monitoring and Evaluation, Abba Aliyu, made the call during an advocacy visit to the NUJ leadership in Yola.

Aliyu said the organisation would commence its Non-Formal Education Youth Connect – Inclusive Youth Leadership Pathway Project from October 26 to December 26, 2026, in Limawa and Jambutu communities of Yola North Local Government Area.

He said the organisation was seeking media collaboration on inclusive education, gender-based violence prevention, healthcare, livelihoods, water, sanitation and hygiene, democracy, peacebuilding and climate resilience.

According to him, the initiative has implemented several projects in Adamawa with support from the British Council and other development partners, particularly in disability inclusion and conflict management.

Also speaking, the Project Lead, Maryam Ibrahim, said the project was designed to promote inclusive youth leadership, strengthen youth participation and equip young people with skills for meaningful community engagement.

She urged journalists to provide sustained publicity and advocacy to ensure that development programmes and public discourse adequately represent persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

Responding, the NUJ Adamawa State Council Chairman, Comrade Abdullahi Ibrahim, expressed the union’s readiness to partner with the organisation.

Ibrahim said the media had an important role to play in amplifying the concerns and rights of vulnerable people.

He assured the delegation that the NUJ would provide effective media coverage for the upcoming project and other initiatives aimed at promoting inclusive development in the state.
