Expert Warns Against Social Media Misuse Among Youths

Youths in Adamawa State have been urged to refrain from misusing social media.

This advice was made by a content creator Mrs. Mercy John, during an interview with Fombina News in Yola,

Mrs. John emphasized that social media is a platform for selling and advertising products, and plays a significant role in interaction and awareness creation in society.

She however expressed dismay over how the younger generation misuses social media by spreading fake news, misleading society, and attacking others.

Mrs. John encouraged youths to use social media productively, stressing that posting content should not be wasteful.

She advised youths to desist from activities that do not generate income and instead use their data for beneficial purposes.

Mrs. John further called on parents to monitor and guide their children on proper social media etiquette, emphasizing the importance of moral training.

Some youths, including Blessings Simon and Jacob Laksar, acknowledged the benefits of social media, citing its role in awareness creation and product advertisement. Another youth,

Polycarp Gabriel, stressed the need for responsible data usage.Parent Mr. Gilbert Musa emphasized the importance of monitoring children’s social media activities to prevent posting harmful content.

Mr Gilbert also cautioned social media users to handle the platform responsibly to maintain peace in society.
