FG Vows to attract global attention on Nigerian made Gold – Perm Sec

The Federal Government has reaffirmed its determination on the attraction of global attention to Nigerian-made Gold.

The permanent secretary federal ministry of Mines and Steel Development Dr Olunwatoyin Akinlade stated this during a one-day stakeholders engagement workshop on the establishment of a downstream international Gold Souk in Kano.

she said the objective of the stakeholder meeting was to seek the collaboration of all stakeholders involved in the entire Gold Value chain which includes miners, processors, refiners, jewel makers, marketers, and security services among others.

The permanent secretary noted that the Gold Souk established in Kano will serve as a platform for showcasing Nigerian crafts in Jewelry making.

“We want to make Kano a destination for people that want to trade in Gold, at the time the platform will provide the means of ensuring that the revenue that is supposed to go to the government is collected through the Nigeria Customs Service.

Dr. Oluwatoyin Akinlade added that Kano being a commercial hub would serve as one of the best Gold Market centers in the country.

in his remark, the Chairman of the Miners Association of Nigeria Kano Chapter Malam Yahaya Kulu said the gesture was very timely.

he maintained that establishing the Gold Souk in Kano would play a vital role in boosting the morale of indigenous miners to operate legally.

The workshop was graced by stakeholders from the Gold Value Chain.
