The speaker, Gombe State House of Assembly, Abubakar Mohammed Luggerewo, expressed dismay over the destruction caused by herders in Akko local government area of the state.
He warned the herders to be law-abiding, considering the efforts made by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya to maintain peace in the state.
The chairman House Committee on security Musa Buba said farmers and herders are twin brothers expected to help one another he therefore urged the herders to peace lovers and law abiding through dialogue understanding one another for peace to reign.
The chairman of Akko local government, Alhaji Dan Danladi Adamu, said the governor has taken steps such as selling subsidized fertilizers to farmers and providing animal vaccines to herders, as well as forming security in communities to ensure a peaceful harvesting period so as to ensure the wellbeing of both farmers and herders.
The district head of Gadawo, Alhaji Shehu Atiku, expressed the community’s readiness to support authorities in ensuring harmony between farmers and herders.
In his remarks, the leader of farmers from Gona, Alhaji Isah Adamu Hamfade, urged the herders to be law-abiding and avoid trespassing on farmlands.
Responding, the leader of the Sullubawa herders, Alhaji Abbi Abubakar, acknowledged that the animals had mistakenly entered farmlands and destroyed some produce.
The Sullubawa community also expressed regret and promised to take measures to prevent future incidents.
