Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has urged Nigerians to continue to support widows of fallen heroes who sacrificed their lives for the unity and peace of Nigeria.
Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri stated this while laying wreath in honour of the fallen heroes held at Mahmud Ribadu’s Square, Yola.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri led dignitaries in the state to lay wreaths in honor of the Nation’s fallen heroes as part of the grand finale of a week long activities marking the 2024 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, emphasized on the need for collaborative efforts in supporting the armed forces and the families of soldiers who died in active service to the country, considering the role they play in sustaining peace and unity in Nigeria.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri had on arrival at the Mahmud Ribadu Square Yola inspected the guard of honor mounted by the men of the armed forces commands in the state and the men of the Nigeria Legion Adamawa state chapter.
The armed forces remembrance day was also attended by serving and retired soldiers as well as widows of the personnel who paid the supreme price.
The wreaths laying by governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, was followed by the Speaker Adamawa State House of Assembly, Bathiya Wesley, and the representative of the State Chief Judge, Justice Hafsat Abdurrahman.
Others include: the service commanders in the state, representative of Lamido Adamawa Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Aliyu Mustapha, state chairman of the Nigeria Legion Warrant officer Ali Mohammed Retired, followed by the representative of the widows of the fallen heroes of the Nigeria armed forces.
Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri saluted the bravery and gallantry of the Nigeria armed forces in the face of adversities and security challenges, hence the government’s resolve to continue assisting the families of the fallen heroes.
The state chairman of the Nigeria Legion warrant officer Ali Mohammed Retired highlighted some of challenges faced by the retired men of the Nigeria army and the widows, calling on authorities concerned to look into their plights.
Special prayers, firing of three gun salute in honor of the deceased officers and the release of doves by governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri signifying peace added colour to the celebration.
The armed forces remembrance day is observed to celebrate the Nigerian armed forces and honour veterans of the world war one and two, Nigerian civil war as well as those still serving at various peace operations nationally and internationally.
