INAUGURATION OF CENSUS PUBLICITY COMMITTEE IN ADAMAWA STATE

The National Population Commission in Adamawa State has inaugurated Census Publicity Committee for the 2023 Population and Housing Census.

The Census Publicity Committee was inaugurated in Yola by the Adamawa State Commissioner for Information and strategy, Dr. Umar Garba Pella, who is also the chairman of the committee.

Speaking earlier before the inauguration of the Census Publicity committee, the Federal Commissioner representing Adamawa state at the National Population Commission, Dr. Clifford Zirra, said there is need to inform and educate the public on the importance of Census hence the inauguration of the committee, adding that this will involve speaking to them in the language that they will understand so as to mobilize them to participate in the 2023 census exercise.

He assured that the National Population Commission is committed to delivering a credible, reliable and verifiable census to Nigerians through the deployment of digital technology to generate data that meets international best standard.

Dr. Clifford Zirra said the commission is fully prepared for the census exercise urging the committee to carry out its national assignment professionally.

”Therefore, the mobilization of critical stakeholders to support and take ownership of the process to achieve the desired outcome is imperative and it hinges absolutely on our ability to speak to the people in the language that will galvanize and mobilize them to participate in the 2023 census”

In his remarks, the Adamawa State commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dr. Umar Garba Pella, who is also the chairman  of the census publicity committee, census is a serious exercise that requires the input of all stakeholders and that the counting of Nigerians is very important at this point considering the importance of census figures for planning and development.

Dr. Garba Pella called on traditional and religious leaders in the state to play their part in sensitizing the public so as to have an all inclusive and participatory census that will reflect the actual population of Nigeria.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Adamawa State Director, National Population Commission,  Alhaji Abubakar Hamaadama, appealed to the state and local government council, traditional institution and the general public to support the census exercise.

“The commission is determined to get everybody involved in advocacy for the census exercise. In this regard the commission has conducted a capacity building workshop at the state level for agencies that are responsible for dissemination of information and public enlightenment such as the National Orientation Agency and the Journalists”

Good will messages were delivered by the Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists,  State Director, National Orientation Agency and the chairperson of the national Council for Women Society.

Those inaugurated are the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Dr. Umar Garba Pella as Chairman of the committee, NUJ Chairman, NOA state Director, all heads of state media organizations, leadership of CAN and Muslim Council, National council for women society, state Director national population commission among other.
