Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission says preparations have commence for the conduct of election for the seventeen local government Chairmanship seats and one hundred and seventy eight councillors seats in the state by November this year.
The Executive Chairman of the Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission Dr Mamman Mohammed stated this while addressing stakeholders in Damaturu.
Dr Mamman Mohammed explained that they have fixed the twenty fifth of November this year for the conduct of local government elections following approval granted to the commission by Governor Mai Mala Buni.
He said the approval was in consonance with the provision of section 197 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended.
Dr Mamman Mohammed pointed out that all Yobe state indigenes of 25 and 30 years were eligible to contest.
The Executive chairman assured all political parties a level playing ground and urged the stakeholders to support the commission for a smooth exercise.
Those present at the meeting include representatives of political parties, security agencies and the media.
