Local Government Service Commission in Adamawa State has expressed willingness to work closely with the state ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs to settle all outstanding entitlements owed local government workers across all twenty local government areas of the state.
The Executive Chairman, Adamawa Sate Local Government Service Commission, Dr. Piton Power, gave the assurance at the local government secretariats of Fufore, Yola South, Yola North and Girei in continuation of the commission’s local government tour.
The Executive Chairman, Adamawa State Local Government Service Commission, Dr. Piton Power, said though the commission is not saddled with the responsibility of payment of salary and other emoluments of local government staff but the commission has been liaising with the ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs to improve the welfare of local government workers across the state.
“I have said it many times and wherever we go I always tell the Directors to compile list of all those that have been promoted, take it to the head of local government administration then they should write a covering letter to the ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs, it is not the responsibility of local government service commission but that of the ministry”.
He said the local government tour has given both the commission and local government workers the opportunity to interact and discuss issues of common concern with a view to finding solutions and motivating local government staff to be more productive and contribute to nation building.
Dr. P.P Power, explained that though the promotion of local government staff especially from grade level 06 to 10 as well as from grade level 10 to 17 had stopped for some time now but the commission had kick started promotion processes for staff on grade level 06 to 10 which according to him will be followed immediately with staff promotions from grade level 10 to 17, adding that because of the motivations and friendly working environment that has been created by the administration of governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, local government workers have been reporting daily at their duty posts unlike what was the practice in the past where local government workers were not always in their office.
The Permanent Secretary, Local Government Service Commission, Alhaji Alhassan Muaz Tahir encouraged local government staff all over the state to open up on their challenges and cooperate with the local government service commission so as to receive help where necessary.
Some of the local government staff who attended the interactive meeting spoke to Fombina News on some of the challenges they will like the local government service commission to fix.
Aliyu Bappa, Comrade Umar Bappa, Comrade Rufai Mohammed and Abubakar Balumi, NULGE chairmen for Fufore, Yola South, Yola North and Girei local government areas also highlighted areas that they require quick intervention by the commission after acknowledging some of the steps the local government service commission had already taken to assist workers at the third tier of government.
The Commission so far has visited all the local government areas in the southern and central zones of the State.
