About three hundred and nine youths drawn from the six states of the North East have graduated from two months N- Knowledge Expansion Training Programme under the N-Power.
The two months training programme which was conducted in Yola Adamawa State brought together young men and women from Adamawa, Borno, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe and were trained in Computer repairs, animation and script writing among other things.
In her speech during the closing ceremony of the N-knowledge Expansion Training Programme, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Hajia Sadiya Umar Farouq, said the federal Government through the social investment programme seeks to raise entrepreneurs who will use their skills to create jobs for not only themselves but for other job seekers in the country.
The Minister who was represented by the Adamawa state focal person of the National Social Investment Programme, Mrs. Mary Yuwadi, said after this phase of the programme, the newly graduated youths will proceed to another nine months training as apprentices under more knowledgeable persons in their various areas of specialization which will be monitored by the ministry to ensure compliance.
Sadiya Umar Farouq, thanked President Muhammadu Buhari for his commitment in eradicating poverty and supporting the entirety of the National social investment Programme and to create more opportunities for Nigerians with the aim of lifting them out of poverty.
In his address, the North East Coordinator of N-Power, Alhaji Bello Hudu, pointed out that the training on software and hardware development was deliberately chosen to improve Information Communication Technology accessibility and use in the north east particularly and to engender development in all sectors of the economy.
Some of the beneficiaries of the programme spoke to Radio Nigeria on what they have learned and what is expected of them.
Highpoints of the programme were the distribution of training tools and certificates to the beneficiaries of the programme.
