As part of activities to mark the opening ceremony of its anniversary week celebration, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists NAWOJ Adamawa State Chapter has carried out a Road Walk exercise in Jimeta.
Interacting with reporters shortly after the Road Walk exercise, the chairperson of the association Rose Anthony Elishama, said they decided to match the street to show their activeness and readiness to build better journalism in the state.
She noted that the crowned Theme of the celebration “Combating Disinformation Amidst Challenging Economy in a Digital World”, was born out of desire to see that disinformation does not have route in media spaces.
highlighting the importance of peaceful environment, Rose Elishama, said the association is also planning to organize a workshop on disinformation as part of series of events to celebrate the week and it’s also engaging experts who will throw light on dangers of people living around river bank areas to relocate to safer grounds, saying that media platforms need to be safe and disseminate meaningful information that would further unite societies devoid of the use of fake news that threatens peace of the society.
Also speaking, Commissioner of Information Adamawa State Nedo Geoffrey Kofulto who was also at the event, said her contribution to be part of the exercise was her desire to be among the female journalists in their struggle of discouraging fake news.
Nedo Geoffrey said Hate Speech, Disinformation and Fake News brings danger, loss of life and properties as witnessed recently in some corners calling on people to shun the menace for better society.
The Road Walk exercise by the female journalists started from Police Round About Jimeta and terminated at the secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ
High point of the opening of the week long exercise was carrying of placard with inscriptions like “Avoid fake news, Disinformation is dangerous matching and singing among others”.
