Headquarters of the 23 Brigade of the Nigerian Army Yola has sensitized some primary and secondary school students on the dangers of drug abuse and effects of social vices in the society.
The sensitization which was part of the activities of the command to mark the Nigerian Army Day Celebration took place at Government Secondary School Bachure in Yola, Adamawa State capital.
The Nigerian Army Day celebration for 2024 climaxed with public speaking engagement which aimed to create awareness for primary, junior and senior secondary school students on the importance of behavioral change and career development and prospects in the Nigeria army.
Speaking on the significance of the day, the 23 Brigade Education Officer Major Omifisayo Baba Wale Taiwo, said it is an annual event that is observed to remember the fallen heroes who served the nation and to also build better relationship with the public to dispel the notion that army is all about fighting.
Adressing the students on the dangers of cultism and drug abuse, the 23 Brigade Army Medical Director Captain Fariogun, said the menace became prevalent thereby causing set backs in the child upbringing and also leads to loss of moral values, behavioral disorder and other vices.
He therefore called for societal reorientation, public enlightenment, vigilance, moral instructions and legislation from the government.
Among the soldiers who spoke to the students about career opportunities in the Nigerian Army, Leutnant Adekola Emanuel Aragbaye and Philip Joseph Nane, encouraged the students to study hard in oder to join the military to safeguard the territorial integrity of Nigeria
Responding on behalf of the management of Government Secondary School Bachure, the School Head Teacher, Patience Jerome thanked the 23 Brigade of the Nigerian Army for the priviledge.
There was presentations of writing materials and other gifts to the staff, teachers and students of the school.
