Nigeria Medical Association, Adamawa State Chapter has decried the poor state of the country’s healthcare system leading to the brain drain being experienced in the medical space.
They called for collaborative support from government at all levels and partners to strengthen the healthcare system for enhanced delivery of healthcare services in the country
They disclosed this at an event to mark the 2023 Nigerian Medical Association
, NMA, Physicians’ Week with the theme “It is Time To Get It Right In The Health Sector: The Abuja Declaration; 22 Years After” in Yola-Adamawa State.
In a remark to declare open the event, NMA Chairman, Adamawa State Chapter, Dr. Solomon Bulus, leveraging on the theme for 2023 Physician Week decried the poor state of the country’s healthcare system leading to the brain drain being experienced in the medical space and therefore called for collaborative support from government at all levels and partners towards strengthening the healthcare system for enhanced delivery of healthcare services.
Commending NMA for its positive contributions to healthcare system, Acting Chief Medical Director of Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital,
Yola, Dr. Ahmad Usman, Represented by Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee Clinical, Dr. Maisaratu Bakari, revealed that the Computed Tomography, CT scan machine is worth over eight hundred million naira, adding that the challenge is the maintenance to serve people in the state and therefore solicited support of the
state government in the maintenance of the machine.
While appreciating NMA for its contributions to healthcare service delivery in the State, Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa represented by the State Head of Service, Shehu Ardo, expressed readiness to partner
NMA and other stakeholders in improving the state’s health sector in line with the objectives of the Abuja declaration and assured the citizens of easy access to healthcare in the state.
On his part, Commissioner for Health, Felix Tangwami represented by Permanent Secretary, State Ministry of Health, Esuwa Misali, said the theme for the Physician Week 2023 is apt as it will go a long way towards improving quality service for humanity and urged the physicians to always abide by the ethics of the profession.
Earlier in an address of welcome, President Medical and Dental Consultant of Nigeria, Adamawa State Chapter, Dr. Yunusa Dahiru expressed optimism that an improved healthcare system will address the menace of the sub-theme for the 2023 Physician Week which is “The Ethical Issues in Human Organ Donation”.
The Physicians’ Week is a week dedicated to physicians and their activities to give back to the society through
medical outreach, positive engagements and collaboration with communities.
