NUJ President Pledges Support For the Enforcement of Journalists Health Insurance Scheme

The National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists NUJ, Alhassan Yahaya, pledged to strengthen efforts toward better remuneration and a comprehensive health insurance scheme for practicing journalists across Nigeria.

 

The NUJ President made this commitment while attending the Dinner and Awards Night of the NUJ Press Week organized by the Gombe State Council in Gombe.

 

Comrade Yahaya emphasized that fair pay, along with health and life insurance coverage, is crucial for journalists to carry out their duties effectively and professionally.

 

He added that the union’s national leadership has already introduced a health insurance scheme aimed at ensuring that all practicing journalists both contribute to and benefit from the initiative.

 

Also speaking at the event, the Director-General of Press Affairs at the Government House, Gombe, Ismaila Uba, praised journalists in the state for their role in promoting government development projects.

 

Earlier, the Chairman of the NUJ in Gombe State, Faruq Mu’azu, urged members to actively participate in union policies and programmes designed for their collective welfare.

 

During the event, a staff of Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria FRCN Fatima Sadiq clinched the award of best Radio Presenter in the state.

 

Other award recipients, including, Abbas Maikano of Nigerian Television Authority, NTA, and Halilu Teli of Gombe Media Corporation GMC who expressed gratitude to the NUJ for recognizing their efforts, describing the awards as a strong motivation to further excel in their professional duties.
