To reduce the financial burden of cancer treatment in Adamawa state, one hundred cancer patients are to benefit from a two year health insurance coverage.

The first lady, Hajiya Lami Fintiri made this known during the 2026 Pinktober North-East Campaign at the Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital in Yola.

The Wife of the Governor was represented at the event by the Chief Medical Director of Yola Specialist Hospital, Dr. Dauda Wadinga.

According to Hajiya Lami, the health insurance scheme will be implemented through the Fresh Air Pro-Life Empowerment Foundation, founded by Hajiya Lami, in collaboration with the “First Ladies Against Cancer”, where she serves as Vice Chairperson.

She stressed that the fight against cancer requires more than awareness, calling for early screening, prompt diagnosis, affordable treatment and sustained support for patients and their families.

She also commended the Adamawa State Government for its investment in healthcare facilities, diagnostic equipment and medical personnel.

The First Lady expressed hope that the intervention would encourage other governments, organisations and development partners to strengthen support for cancer patients and improve access to treatment.

The Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Suleiman Bashir, was among the dignitaries who attended the event, alongside other stakeholders in the health sector.
