Oxfam Nigeria says translating Community Development Planning CDP documents into actionable budgets will create significant opportunities for sustainable and people-driven development at the grassroots, especially in conflict-affected communities.
The Project Coordinator for Oxfam Nigeria, Samuel Lashon, made this assertion at a training workshop for stakeholders in the three benefiting Local Government Areas of Guyuk, Biu, and Kwaya Kusar in Adamawa and Borno States, which took place in Guyuk and Biu, respectively.
Samuel Lashon from Oxfam Nigeria explained that the training aims to shape and build the capacity of stakeholders on how to translate the CDP document into an actionable budget to improve service delivery by the government for the benefit of citizens.
Oxfam Nigeria had earlier engaged stakeholders from the two states and benefiting communities in well structured, inclusive, and participatory processes, enabling them to champion the transformation of their needs and challenges into the CDP document and a sustainable actionable budget.
The Project Coordinator described the training as a significant opportunity for sustainable and people-driven development, noting that Oxfam and its partners are pleased that community voices are shaping budgets at both the state and grassroots levels, charting a course for real development across rural communities, especially in implementing states.
The lead Consultant at the training, Olayemi Olufemi, mentioned that the training on translating the CDP Document into an actionable budget aligns with modern governance reflecting on the budget system.
Olufemi added that the workshop would also ignite the political will of local government officials to translate the document into the state budget for the benefit of people at the grassroots.
Participants from Guyuk Local Government Area of Adamawa State, Temau Chinero, and Uria Daniel from Biu Local Government Area of Borno State, described the training as a game-changer in the history of grassroots development.
They noted that the impact of the workshop will help address loopholes experienced over the years with public funds and pledged to apply the knowledge gained for the rapid development of the grassroots.
The representative of the Adamawa State Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning, Abdulaziz Shuaibu, commended Oxfam Nigeria and partners for the training, describing it as a remarkable platform for key stakeholders to participate in bringing about grassroots development.
