People with Disabilities in Adamawa State have appealed to governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, to implement People With Disabilities Commission Act, that was passed into law by the state house of assembly and assented to by former governor Umaru Jibrilla Bindow.
A former Secretary General of Association of Persons with Disabilities in the state, Mr. George Pauro, made the appeal from Numan in a telephone interview with Fombina News.
The former Secretary General of Persons with Disabilities in Adamawa state, Mr. George Pauro, emphasized that the provisions of Disabilities Commission Act, if implemented by the Adamawa State government, will accord some privileges to people with disabilities that will improve their standard of living and reduce poverty among them.
He reminded the governor that people with disabilities were involved in virtually all the political process that ushered in all the present political leaders at all levels of governance, hence the need for persons with disabilities to be considered while giving either employments or replacements, as well as political appointments.
The former secretary General of the association of persons with disabilities, appealed to governor Ahmadu Umaru fintiri, consider renovating the Blind Workshop in Numan town because it is no longer habitable, having taken over by snakes and other reptiles.
George Pauro, also extended the appeal to members of the state and national assemblies to extend dividends of democracy in their various constituencies to people with disabilities, stressing that the present economic hardship being experience in Nigeria, occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy is particularly harder on people with disabilities due to their vulnerability and the fact that they are not being carried along in the scheme of things compared to other states of the federation.
He accused the immediate past local government chairmen across the state for deliberately excluding people with disabilities in their programmes and policies, urging members of the association of persons with disabilities to ensure the participate fully in the forth coming local government election in the state, and elect only candidates that will protect their interest by carrying them along in their administrations.
Mr. George Pauro, however, commended governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his giant developmental strides that has placed him above his equals in other states of the federation, adding that Adamawa state, especially the state capital is wearing a look.
