Some dealers decried low patronage of animal markets in Jigawa state.
The cost of rams, sheeps,goats as well as cows is also scaring away customers in the markets despite availability of the animals.
A visit to Shuwarin monday market in Kiyawa local government area of Jigawa state, our Correspondent reports that rams have flooded the animals wing of the market but with few buyers available.
The least prices of animals especially rams at the shuwarin market is between 50 to 100 thousand naira.
While the big size which was sold one hundred thousand naira last year, go for 150 to 200 thousand naira this year.
Some of the customers who spoke to Radio Nigeria pointed out the prices were high compared to last year when they bought medium size rams at between 50 to 70 thousand naira.
Mallam Abdullahi Aminu who came from Zamfara state and Mallam Sadi Saminu also came Kano who were dealers of rams lamented over the high prices of animals at shuwarin market.
They also hoped that the cost would crash before the end of the monday market.
Some of the dealers also blamed the rise in prices of animals in some states on the high cost of breeding livestock, rise in transport cost and the general economic hardship in Nigeria.
A ram dealer at Yalwawa in Dutse decried low patronage of rams this year, associating it to lack of money in the hands of individuals.
Meanwhile, another ram dealer at Danmasara associated the increase in the price of the rams to the removal of fuel subsidy by the present administration which virtually affects the price of transportation among others.
Meanwhile, some civil servants who pleaded anonymity said they were unable to buy any ram due to the economic hardship of the country.
Reports from some local government areas which include Hadejia, Kirikasamma, Guri, Birnin kudu amongst others say apart from the conventional markets, temporary ram markets have sprouted up on some major streets of Jigawa state.
Radio Nigeria also observed that are also less vendors who drive group of rams round the city in search of customers and also people who display them in front of their houses and business places in the metropolis.
The animals which include rams,sheeps,goats and cows are very much available at Shuwarin market with high rate of expectations by the sellers.
