Stakeholders in Taraba State have been urged to sustain achievements recorded in the past twenty-four months in mitigating farmer herder conflict.
The call was made by a non-governmental organization Search for Common Ground during a stakeholders meeting it organized at the end of its COMITAS II Project held in Jalingo, Taraba state.
Speaking at the event organized to mark the end of the project and handing over of peace structures aimed at enhancing peace and security in Taraba state, Country Director, Search for Common Ground, Hajiya Fatima Abubakar thanked, Taraba state government and other critical stakeholders for their support and for giving the organisation an opportunity to address farmer/herder clashes in Zing and Lau Local government areas of the state.
Reflecting on the successes of the project which include establishment of early warning early response systems, creation of a robust stakeholders network, strengthening of dialogue systems, Reopening of the cattle market in Zing LGA among others, Abubakar noted that the impacts of the COMITAS II Project were far reaching and should be sustained to maintain peaceful environment for residents of Taraba state.
While handing over the peace structures to Taraba state government, the country director stressed the relevance of the structures urging the government and other stakeholders to own them and explore their usefulness.
In an address, Taraba state governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas represented by Chairman, Bureau for peace and conflict management in the state, Bishop Innocent Solomon, acknowledged the impacts of COMITAS project and applauded Search for Common Ground for contributing to peace building.
He assured that Taraba state government will continually work to build peace in the state.
Members of some structures established to facilitate COMITAS project each took turns to share the benefits of the project lauding Search for Common Ground for contributing to peace enterprise not only in Taraba state but the nation at large.
