Taraba State Correspondents’ Chapel elects new leadership.

Taraba State Correspondents’ Chapel has elected and sworn in new executives to head the affairs of the Chapel for the next three years.

The election, which took place in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital, was conducted in a peaceful atmosphere without rancour.

Office of the Chairman, Treasurer, and Assistant Secretary were keenly contested’ while the position of Auditor, Vice Chairman, and Financial Secretary returned unopposed.

Declaring the results, Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Janet Audu said Mr. Gabriel Yough of the News Agency of Nigeria scored 22 out of 33 votes to beat his opponent, Mr. Chuwang Dungs of Premium Times newspaper, Lamini Chuyeh of AIT defeated Nahum Sule of National News with 20 against 13 votes to emerge Assistant Secretary, while John Nkom of Leadership Newspapers won to occupy the position of Treasurer.

Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ ), Taraba state Chapter, Comrade Mathew Eliud Jen who administered the oath of allegiance and office to the new officials, equally congratulated them and those who didn’t emerge victorious, stressing that regardless of the outcome of the election, everybody is a winner.

He commended the electoral committee for successfully conducting the elections and members of the Chapel for their good conduct.

In his acceptance speech, the new chairman, Mr. Gabriel Yough thanked the committee for conducting a credible election and members of the Chapel for re-electing him to serve for the second time.

Soliciting the support of members of the chapel and other stakeholders as the new chairman, Mr. Yough promised that under his leadership, the chapel would record greater achievements, which would make every member proud.

In an interview, Mr. Gabriel’s opponent during the election, Mr. Chuwang Dungs described the election as transparent, pointing out that although he lost, he would fully support the new executives to succeed.

Other new officials are Hajiya Jamila Abba-Auditor, Athanatious Okerafor-Financial Secretary, Femi Steven Bolaji- Secretary, and Cletus Bernard- Vice Chairman.
